Spalding baseball signed by 26 members of the 1942 Chicago Cubs obtained by catcher Bob Scheffing while a member of the team. Scheffing played for the Cubs from 1941-50 and managed the team 1957-59. Players are: Hi Bithorn, Phil Cavarretta, Ki Ki Cuyler (HOF), Dom Dallessandro, Dick Erickson, Bill Fleming, Jimmie Foxx (HOF), Charlie Gilbert, Stan Hack, Chico Hernandez, Bill Lee, Clyde McCullough, Lennie Merullo, Jake Mooty, Bill Nicholson, Lou Novikoff, Vern Olsen, Claude Passeau, Tot Pressnell, Rip Russell, Bob Scheffing, Lou Stringer, Bob Sturgeon, Lon Warneke, and Jimmie Wilson. Foxx and Wilson are on one sweet spot with Passeau and Sturgeon on the other. A couple of dings hit the Lee and Stringer signatures resulting in a little loss of ink. Mostly 7-8/10 black ink signatures on a lightly soiled baseball. The key Jimmie Foxx (8-9/10)and Ki Ki Cuyler (8-9/10) signatures are among the strongest on the ball.
