The 1980 U.S. Men’s Olympic hockey team shocked the world in Lake Placid, New York, when they won the gold medal. The U.S. squad, made up of amateur and collegiate players and led by Head Coach Herb Brooks, defeated the mighty Soviet Union national team – a powerhouse that had won the gold medal in six of the seven previous Olympic Winter Games – 4-3 in the semi-final round on Feb. 22, 1980. The victory over the Soviets will forever be remember by sports announcer Al Michael’s iconic call at the end: “Do you believe in miracles? Yes!” The U.S. squad went on to defeat Finland in the gold-medal-round clinching game by the score of 4-2.

This lot features an iconic 20" by 24" full color photo of the 1980 United States Hockey Olympic Gold Medal winning team celebrating seconds after defeating the Russians. It is signed by all 20 U.S. players in matching 7-8/10 blue felt tip pen. Signatures include Jim Craig, Mike Eruzione, Ken Morrow, Mike Ramsey, Mark Johnson, Rob McClanahan, Dave Silk, Bill Baker, Neal Broten, Dave Christian, Steve Christoff, John Harrington, Steve Janaszak, Jack O'Callahan, Mark Pavelich, Buzz Schneider, Eric Strobel, Bob Suter, Phil Verchota and Mark Wells. Beautifully framed and matted, the overall presentation piece measures 32” wide by 28” high.
