In 1993, Don Drysdale was serving as a radio broadcaster for the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was his fifth year on the job for the Blue Crew and marked his 24th year in broadcasting as a whole. It would also be the year that Drysdale passed away, on July 3, 1993, of an apparent heart attack while on a road trip with the team in Montreal. He was just 56 years old.

This lot features five 1993 game-issued and signed Los Angeles Dodgers home jerseys that Drysdale received from various members of the team prior to his untimely passing. The jerseys comprise some of the most popular and most successful team members in Dodgers’ history: Manager Tom Lasorda, pitcher Orel Hershiser, first baseman Eric Karros, catcher Mike Piazza and center fielder Bret Butler. Each of the jerseys include the proper “Rawlings” manufacture’s tag on the inside rear tail next to a strip tag reading “SET 1 1993” to indicate set number and season: Lasorda (size 44); Hershiser (size 46); Karros (size 48); Piazza (size 48) and Butler (size 42). Each of the jerseys is identical in its manufacturing with “Dodgers” in blue tackle twill script across the front and the player/manager’s name in arched blue tackle twill lettering outlined in white across the shoulders. Individual numbers – Lasorda, 2; Hershiser, 55; Karros, 23; Piazza, 31; and Butler, 22 – appear on the back in similar fashion and in red tackle twill across their respective left breast areas. Each of the jerseys was signed in blue marker by the respective player and manager, but each of the signatures has faded severely into the fabric. Still an impressive lot of five quality, game-issued jerseys from some of L.A. finest!

Includes LOA from the Drysdale Family.

Autographs pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
