Tennis player Jimmy Arias turned pro in 1980 at age 16. In 1983, he had his best year finished as the No. 6 ranked player in the world having the U.S. Open semifinals and four other events. He reached his career high ranking of World No. 5 in April 1984. Offered here is one of his match-used racquets from the early 1980's. The Donnay 'BORG PRO' has "JIMMY ARIAS PERSONAL RACKET" stamped on the middle shaft section. Made in Belgium, the black-painted wood racquet with a brown leather grip shows solid use, with one broken string and court contact marks on the outer rim.
Includes copy of letter from former U.S. tennis player Luke Jensen's mother. Original letter documented the acquisition of the Arias racquet, plus those of Chris Evert and Ivan Lendl; it will be included with the Evert racquet. Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum as well.
