Bert “Campy” Campaneris was a great competitor who played nearly his entire MLB career for the A’s, first in Kansas City and then in Oakland. In fact, Campaneris was the team’s starting shortstop for the A’s dynasty years when they won three consecutive World Series titles (1972, ’73 and ’74). His 19-year career, however, would find him competing for the New York Yankees in 1983, his final season. In his only season in pinstripes, Campaneris played in 60 games and batted .322. This lot features his game-worn Yankees jersey from that last campaign. On the left front tail is a “Wilson” size “42” manufacturer’s tag with washing instructions. Inside the rear collar is a strip tag reading “Campaneris 83 2” embroidered in navy blue chain stitching indicating the player, season and set number. On the left chest is a “NY” logo, while on the reverse is his player uniform number “56.” Both are done in the same navy blue tackle twill. The jersey is properly tagged, shows light wear and comes unaltered and as-issued.
