This important Size 9 1/4 Herf Jones ring was awarded to John Pont, head coach of the Big Ten Champions Indiana University, which finished with a 9-2 overall record after a Jan. 1 loss to USC in the Rose Bowl. Pont was the only Indiana coach to take team to the Rose Bowl and was named Coach of year in 1967. The sterling silver ring has a red stone on the face with silver "I" at the center, encircled by raised letters "Big Ten Football Champions 1957." One shank has the sculpted overlapped IU letters graphic, while the other has the sculpted Big Ten graphic. Engraved on the inside of the band is "HJ - Sterling." All elements appear to be in essentially as-issued and problem-free condition. Comes in an attractive 2-inch-square black-felt jewelry box.
