Awesome photo taken on Lou Gehrig Day, July 4, 1939, featuring Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig and Joe McCarthy standing above some of the many gifts given to Gehrig that special day. 10 x 12 1/2 inch image has been attached to a sturdy 12 x 14 1/2 inch photo board. Back of photo board has been stamped "PHOTO BY BEN GREENHAUS 1475 BROADWAY TIMES BLD'G NEW YORK 18 N Y SEP 20 1939". Photo itself appears to be in perfect condition with the thick board it is attached to having a 7/8" tear at the middle left side. Also included is an original 6 x 7 inch photo taken right about the same time from the Sporting News Archives. Stamped "Property of the Sporting News" on back with the added pencil caption "Mayor La Guardia unwraps the scroll to present to Joe McCarthy . Lou Gehrig in center". Photo has some angled cuts at the bottom left, made so that the image would conform to an accompanying article in the Sporting News. Absolutely stunning pair of photos!
