With his ninth-inning single off Oakland ace reliever Dennis Eckersley — part of a thrilling, 13-inning Minnesota Twins victory on September 16, 1993, Dave Winfield pushed has way further into the record books by becoming the 19th member of the 3,000-hit Club. The 1993 season also saw Winfield reach a number of other milestones, including his 500th career double (May 17) and his 450th career home run (August 1). This highly attractive official lineup card comes from Oakland A's Hall of Fame manager Tony LaRussa, who provided this original lineup from the historic game along with the cap he wore that day as well. The Size 7 1/4 cap is in superb condition, showing good game wear and tagging from New Era and the Diamond Collection. The Major League Baseball embroidered logo appears at the back of the cap. LaRussa has signed the top of the brim in a gold marker and inscribed the date. At the underside of the brim is "LaRussa" and his No. 10 hand printed in black marker, along with the notation "V. Twins 9/16/93."
The blazing yellow lineup card is carefully filled out by LaRussa in black and green marker, and also autographed by the A's manager at the top and by Winfield toward the bottom - both in black marker. The 9-by-14-inch card has been handsomely matted in A's green and gold to overall dimensions of 14-by-19 inches, and then protected in a polished gold metal frame and glass. All elements appear to be in essentially as-issued and problem-free condition.
The items in this lot come with a Letter of Authenticity from Tony LaRussa. They were part of Bill Albert's memorabilia collection. Albert worked as a staff photographer for the San Jose Giants minor league baseball club (Giants single A affiliate) and did freelance photography for the San Francisco Giants and Oakland A's developing relationships with many Bay Area professional athletes.
