This stunning jersey carries with it the phenomenal weight of being from Drew Brees' very first appearance in an NFL game as a rookie in 2001. Filling in for the team's regular quarterback, Doug Flutie in a game vs. the Chiefs on November 4, 2001, Brees offered a nice glimpse of what was to come. He completed 15 of 27 passes for 221 yards and threw for his first of many NFL touchdowns. Brees led a furious comeback attempt with the Chargers scoring 20 unanswered points in what was ultimately a losing effort. It was his only game experience from that rookie season; in 2002, Brees would take over and start all 16 games for San Diego, with Flutie relegated as his backup. This Chargers home jersey displays moderate game use and comes with an A10 commendation from MEARS. Brees' own testimony of the jersey’s provenance comes in the form of his autograph and inscription on the back number. Atop his No. 9 on the back, Brees has written in black Sharpie: "To Mike - This is one of my rookie year game-worn jerseys! Enjoy. Your buddy, Drew Brees," and he added his No. 9 inscription and the date, 11/12/01. Little did Brees know at the time of the inscription that he would not see the field again that season. The Size 48 Starter jersey carries all the appropriate tags on the lower front tail, including the flag tags of "4 inches L.B" and "48." The embroidered Adidas logos appear on each shoulder and the iconic NFL emblem logo appears on the front at the bottom of the V neck.

Comes with a full Letter of Authenticity from MEARS (A10).

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
