This spectacular commemorative helmet - limited to an edition size of only 5 - was presented to Warren Moon as part of the celebration of the TSN Top 50 CFL Players, a list of the greatest 50 Canadian Football League players, as selected by a panel of 60 former CFL players, then-current and former coaches, executives, and media members in 2006. The panel was assembled by sports television network TSN in partnership with the CFL. The results were announced as part of the 2006 Grey Cup festivities in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Rare indeed to find a professional football player with Hall of Fame designations from different countries, but Warren Moon was hardly a typical case. By virtue of his extraordinary six seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos, where he and Tom Wilkinson shared signal-calling duties and helped lead the Eskimos to an unprecedented five consecutive Grey Cup victories in 1978-82. Moon won the offensive Grey Cup Most Valuable Player award in the 1980 and 1982 games and became the first professional quarterback to pass for 5,000 yards in a season by reaching exactly 5,000 yards in 1982. In his final CFL season of 1983, Moon threw for a league record 5,648 yards, and won the CFL's Most Outstanding Player Award. Throughout his CFL career, Moon amassed 21,228 yards and 144 touchdown passes. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2001.
The Schutt helmet features black-and-white artwork of Moon on each side - portrait and action - with the Hall of Famer adding a blazing 9/10 black Sharpie autograph on the helmet's right side near his portrait. He also inscribed his No. 1 with the signature. Below the action figure on the opposite side the artist, D. Arrigo, has added an edition size of 5/10. The front of the helmet has a decal with "Top 50 TSN CFL Players" on the front and another on the back with Moon's name and his rank in the listing of "05," along with the CFL and TSN logos. The helmet appears to be in pristine condition, largely as-issued and problem free, and comes in a black canvas "TSN" presentation bag with draw strings.
