Extremely rare large-format full canceled Honus Wagner check in the amount of $75.00 is drawn on Carnegie Trust Company of Carnegie and dated Nov. 4, 1918. The check is made payable to "J.H. Hammill" (endorsed on the reverse in ink by J.H. Hammill) and is beautifully signed in black fountain pen, "John H. Wagner" ("8"). The check has three extremely light diagonal creases (so light they are virtually undetectable), one of which runs through the "g" in Wagner's signature. This is an exceptionally early Honus Wagner check dating from the very first year following his retirement as a player. Wagner checks are far rarer than Cobb or even Ruth checks, with just a small number discovered and released by the family in relatively recent years. Decades ago, Cobb and Ruth checks were available in far greater quantities, literally by the hundreds, and they have been easily absorbed by the marketplace, suggesting a very bright future in the years to come for the few Wagner checks circulating. This outstanding example is in solid Excellent condition.
