Sammy Sosa wore this beautiful Chicago Cubs blue road jersey during the famous 1998 season. Baseball fans all know the story. Sosa and Mark McGwire of the St. Louis Cardinals went toe-to-toe in pursuit of Roger Maris' then single-season record of 61 homeruns. McGwire broke the record in a game against the Cubs culminating in a bear hug at home plate with Slammin' Sammy. The final tally was 70 big flies for McGwire and 66 for Sosa in one of the most remarkable displays of power the boys of summer have ever produced, tainted or not.
This Russell Athletic size 48 jersey has "21-48-98" stitched into the neck indicating Sosa's jersey number, his jersey size, and the 1998 season. There are two unique patches on the sleeves. The left sleeve features a commemorative patch outline of Harry Caray's face to honor the Cubs' legendary broadcaster who passed away in February of that year. The right sleeve features a large National League patch with Caray's famous "Hey Hey" quote. The jersey is in great condition and exhibits light, but apparent use.
