Dominating the NBA landscape through much of the '80s was this Bird - Johnson thing ... a rivalry of one-upmanship that expanded to their respective fiefdoms - the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. And culminating the '84-85 season was yet another clash between these two star-spangled teams, featuring the very same Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Los Angeles claimed the NBA's Championship in that final series, four games to two - a glorious conclusion that spawned the making of this equally glorious ring. It's a salesman's sample in tribute to the colorful and exciting Magic Johnson. This is a Balfour ring, sized to 11-3/4. The crown features CZs - a cluster for the net with a large stone representing the ball in the design of the NBA Trophy. About the perimeter of the crown is announced "Los Angeles Lakers, World Champions"; the left shank cites "Johnson 1985," which is set against the standard NBA logo. On the right shank, there appears the Lakers logo, along with game tallies of the NBA Finals. "Purple Reign" is trumpeted on the left shank - a play on words derived from 'Purple Rain' - the legendary album by Prince from 1984. In the band, we find the engravings of the maker ("LGB") and "10K," and a serial number. This is an outstanding piece of jewelry in essentially Nr-Mt condition, basically problem-free and as-issued. It's an important artifact in representing one of the dominant players of the era and the great teams that he directed.
