Rickey Henderson wielded this Rawlings Adirondack professional model bat as he closed in on the magic 3,000 hit plateau during the 2001 season. It not only shows tremendous use, but was apparently the bat that he used when he stroked the 2,988th hit of his career. The “R. Henderson” block letter stamping on the barrel appears above the team designation "Padres." Henderson's number "24" appears in black marker on both the knob and top of the barrel. This 513B model bat currently weighs 31 ounces and measures 34 inches in length, as identified in black marker on the knob. This bat exhibits heavy use with ball marks throughout the barrel. Henderson’s custom tape appears at the bottom of the handle, which is covered in pine tar and mota stick extending all the way to the red ring and centerbrand. Henderson has added his autograph and notation “2,988 Hits” and “SF” in reference to the game being played in San Francisco. An ideal Henderson gamer in all respects from a seminal period in his Hall of Fame career.
