March 25, 1800 Thomas Jefferson dinner invitation. Hand written on the outside of the folded invitation is "The Honorable Mr. M. Richards". Hand written inside on the printed invitation is the name "Mr. Richards", as well as the date for the invitation "on Friday the 25th", and the date it was sent "Tuesday Mar. 22. 00". We do not know if the writing is Jefferson's or not. 7 3/4" by 9 7/8" piece of paper has been folded in half, then folded twice more so that one edge can be tucked into the other. It was then sealed with red wax. The 7/8" in diameter red piece of wax is still attached to one side of the paper. It still has a piece of paper torn from the other side when it was opened. The other side has corresponding paper loss from the wax seal. What looks like a small loop has been added to the last "0" of "1800". An unknown word in what looks to be pencil by another hand is to the upper left side of the invitation. Interesting piece!
