This beauty is a Philadelphia Phillies home jersey worn by Roy Smalley during the 1958 season, his last campaign in the major leagues at the close of an 11-year career that included stints with the Cubs, Braves and Phillies. The cream-colored flannel button-down garment showcases the unique vintage features of the Phillies' uniform style that was adopted in 1950: the red pinstripe pattern; burgundy chenille with white-edged embroidery cursive characters "Phillies" appears across the chest with stars to dot the "i"s. Lettering and Smalley's No. 17 on the back reveal minimal fraying of the stitching; the jersey shows good game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. Within the collar, a felt tag is home to a chain-stitched notation of "R. Smalley" and the vented left front tail features a "Wilson" size "42" label, along with separate label with washing instructions and a much-smaller addition tag with embroidered "1958."
