This is the largest scrapbook we've ever seen, all of 22-by-28 inches, with 40 pages of acetate-protected newspaper clips, photographs, certificates, wire photos, game box scores, magazine covers and pages, postcards, souvenir program pages and simply anything you might imagine from John Havlicek's storied career at Ohio State University from 1959-62. This is a treasure trove for archivists and historians: literally hundreds of news clips, many full broadsheet size full-page layouts that still manage to fit in these huge pages. Reportedly maintained to a considerable degree by Havlicek's mother, the front of the scrapbook has "My Scrapbook" written in script in black marker and then a 15-inch Havlicek autograph. With pages of such enormous dimensions, it's hard not to have experienced a good deal of separation from the binders, and shifting of the various clips, photos, etc., around the pages, but that's about the only discouraging word about such a remarkable archive of Havlicek memorabilia. There are literally dozens of color and black-and-white photos ranging mostly from 8-by-10 to 11-by-14, including team photos (one in their street clothes), plus nearly a dozen wire photos and certificates and even a cloth patch from a basketball tournament. You can track Havlicek's college exploits from his arrival on campus in 1959 to the Olympic Games in Rome, his signing with the Cleveland Browns and even his declining a $1 million offer to sign with the American Basketball Association. The lot represents an extraordinary opportunity for any fan of one of the greatest collegiate and professional players of the postwar era. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from John Havlicek.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
