This 6-inch high Acrylic piece houses a 2 1/2-inch in diameter medallion from The Sporting News, the sponsor of the American League Pitcher of the Year award. Bret Saberhagen earned this first of two awards that he would earn in his career (second in 1989) after going 20-6 with a 2.87 ERA and helping to propel the team to its only World Series title. He also earned his first of two Cy Young Awards and would be named the MVP of the Royals' victorious World Series that fall. The medallion has baseball figurals and "The Sporting News" engraved on the front and the name and "The First Newsweekly in Sports" on the back. A 4-by-1 3/4-inch nameplate at the base of the acrylic section notes "1985 American League Pitcher of the Year, Bret Saberhagen, Kansas City Royals." Saberhagen has signed in bold, black Sharpie on the back of the acrylic section above the medallion. The piece appears to be in essentially as-issued and problem-free condition. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from Bret Saberhagen.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
