Paul Hornung began his legendary football career as an All-American quarterback at the University of Notre Dame, where, in his senior season, he was awarded the coveted Heisman Trophy in 1956. He was a star halfback and kicker for the Green Bay Packers from 1957-66, missing the 1963 season when he was suspended by Commissioner Rozelle. He was the NFL MVP in 1960 and 1961, and in 1986 was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Although the re-issued ring is very similar, it is not exactly the same as the original. The size 13 1/2 gold ring has "JOSTENS 10K" stamped on the inside with a real diamond set into a raised, football-shaped green stone with "1961 GREEN BAY PACKERS WORLD CHAMPS" around the perimeter. On one side is the name "Hornung" with the detailed image of a runner below and the No. "5" on a football beneath. The other side has the score of the 1961 Championship game "Green Bay 37 - New York 0" with large "NFL" lettering below.
The ring and black-felt presentation box are in essentially as-issued and problem-free condition and come with a signed LOA from Paul Hornung.
