Bats used by the great Roberto Clemente are immediately identifiable. Their flared handles and impressive size make them as distinctive as the man himself. This exceptional Clemente H&B game bat was used by the legendary Hall of Fame great during the early 1960's. The 36 inch, 33 ounce signature model "U1" bat is composed of top-quality white ash and features distinct manufacturer's stampings throughout. Clemente's uniform number ("21") appears on the knob in vintage black marker. Tremendous game use is displayed throughout its entire length including copious ball marks, cleat marks, and dead wood on the barrel. A small crack in the handle has been subsequently repaired. Early Clemente gamers command a premium among collectors, with the demand far exceeding the supply. The appeal of this particular bat is further enhanced by an accompanying notarized letter of provenance documenting its use by Clemente during a two-game stretch against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium on May 2nd and 3rd, 1964. The letter from Ken Peters, whose sister was employed at Busch Stadium, writes, “The following item is my 1964 Roberto Clemente game used hit bat last used at Busch Stadium. I was a long time Pirates fan and attended the games on May 2nd and 3rd, 1964 at Busch Stadium. With great interest I watched Roberto Clemente on both days and noticed the bat he was using. On Saturday, May 2nd, Roberto Clemente got a hit with this bat. On Sunday, May 3rd, Clemente got two-more hits. During the Sunday game, I watched Clemente crack the bat and return it to the dugout. My Aunt Henrieta, known as “Sis”, was a long time employee at the stadium. I asked her to ask the equipment manager for that bat. She said she would and went to the clubhouse and a little while later she returned with the bat Clemente had just cracked. The bat has remained in my possession ever since and remains in the exact condition as last used by Clemente and then given to me by the equipment manager that day”.

This classic Clemente gamer is ideal in all respects, validated by the grade of GU10 it has received from John Taube of PSA/DNA. An additional 2004 LOA from Troy Kinunen of SCD Authentic also tenders a perfect rating of A10.
