From the Champ's early days on the international stage comes a pair of training worn gloves dated to 1960, the year when the brash youngster from Louisville would capture the attention of the sporting world with his electrifying performance at the Olympics in Rome. The burgundy gloves are in excellent condition, with Post Manufacturing Co. of New York tags on the wrists, laces intact, showing good use overall but no discernible problems. On the left-hand glove inside is printed in red ink: "Signed by Cassius Clay, Louisville 1960," which the original owner wrote. On the inside of the right-hand glove is a strong blue ballpoint signature "From Cassius Clay 1960," which the gloves' original owner obtained directly from Clay that summer in Louisville after his triumphant return from Rome.
A Letter of Authenticity from Craig Hamilton is included with the lot.
