Nicknamed “The Man of Steal”, Rickey Henderson is widely regarded as the sport's all-time greatest leadoff hitter and base runner. He holds the major league records for career stolen bases, runs scored, unintentional walks and leadoff home runs. At the time of his last major league game in 2003, the ten-time American League All-Star ranked among the sport's top 100 all-time home run hitters and was its all-time leader in bases on balls. In 2009, he was inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame. This jersey dates from a significant season in Rickey’s career. On May 1, 1991 in a game against the Yankees, Rickey Henderson stole 3rd base for the 939th stolen base of his career which put him ahead of Lou Brock on the all time list. The ever humble Henderson declared in a speech after the feat, “today I am the greatest of all time”. Inside the left front tail is the “Rawlings” manufacturer’s tag with wash instructions and jersey size “42” with adjacent “SET 1 1991” flag tag. Across the front of the jersey is the team name “Athletics”. Player number “24” appears on both the front and back. All these numbers and letters are done in green on yellow tackle twill. A Velcro tab is present inside the placket at the chest. On back is player name “HENDERSON” done in green tackle twill on a white nameplate. On the left sleeve is the Elephant with a bat on a ball logo patch. The jersey is properly tagged and completely original, demonstrating appropriate game use.
