This is the actual headgear worn by Muhammad Ali in 1978 in preparation for his second bout with Leon Spinks. The headgear is in excellent condition, shows good use but is essentially problem free and without major defect. Virtually all of the intricate white stitching surrounding the padded areas is intact and betrays no fraying or other loss; the strap is intact and in working order, revealing only perhaps a 1/8th-inch small section where the leather separated. Remarkably detailed provenance from an included LOA points out that Ali signed it at the training camp, writing "From Muhammad Ali. 3 Time Champion." The signature has faded a bit over the intervening 34 years but is still clearly visible. LOA's from Craig Hamilton of JO Sports, Inc. and from advanced Ali collector Pete Morkovin.
