The St. Louis Chapter of the BBWAA selected Ozzie Smith as the recipient of the J.G. Taylor Spink Award as St. Louis Baseball man of the Year for 1982, handing him this spectacular 12-by-15-inch plaque that pictures a drawing of Smith by famed sports artist Amadee, whose work graced the pages of the St. Louis-based Sporting News for so many decades. A 10-by-13-inch metal plate with gold finish has the Amadee drawing of Smith surrounded by the newspaper box scores from all seven games of the 1982 World Series. Atop the plate it says "Ozzie Smith J.G. Taylor Spink Award, St. Louis Baseball Man of the Year" and at the bottom "Presented by the St. Louis Chapter BBWAA, January 18, 1983." The gold plate is highlighted by a polished black mat of 1/4 inch and then mounted on a wood board with black edging. The award itself is in outstanding condition; the wood base reveals only the lightest wear on a couple of corners.
