Nice looking circa 1890's James J. Corbett 4 1/2" by 6 1/2" cabinet card produced by Strobridge Litho Co. features a photo of the "Champion of the World" in formal wear on the front while advertising Corbett appearing in the play "Gentleman Jack" on the back. The reverse is written from the perspective of "A Lady's Thoughts" while watching the play and follow it through all 5 acts right into "Comments on the way home". During his years as World's Champion Corbett made the vast majority of his money appearing in stage productions such as this. Corbett won the World Heavyweight Boxing Title from the legendary John L. Sullivan on September 7, 1892 and held the title until beaten by Bob Fitzsimmons on March 3, 1897. "Under the management of Wm. A. Brady" appears right below Corbett's name. Crease free cabinet has some corner wear with some light soiling on the back.
