If you're Rawlings supplied him with gold tanned leather that was used to create ladies’ formal slippers. Rawlings constructed the glove and affixed it to a walnut base to create the very first Rawlings Gold Glove Award. The look of the award didn't change much over the next 50 years. In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award in 2007, the award was given an updated look. Inspired by the look of a luxury automobiles, what do you give to the man who already has 13 of your coveted Gold Gloves? That's easy: another Gold Glove. Arguably one of the most instantly recognizable pro sports awards, the 22-lb. Rawlings Gold Glove 50th Anniversary Award utilizes many of the design elements of the individual awards, resting upon an elaborate four-level pedestal constructed from buried cherry wood base with a lacquered black piano wood accent. Thirteen tiny gold plaques surround the front of the bottom oval, which is 20 inches in diameter at its horizontal apex and about 12 inches at the vertical. Each small plaque has a team name and year, in this instance two with San Diego Padres and the last 11 with St. Louis Cardinals. A larger 12-by-2-inch gold plaque crosses the front of the second level, with the words, "50th Anniversary Rawlings Gold Glove Award, presented to Ozzie Smith, honoring his selection as a part of the All-Time Rawlings Gold Glove Team. Two gold baseballs rest on either side of the second level, along with third pedestal created from Rawlings Heart of the Hide leather that serves as a backdrop for an acrylic etching with Smith's portrait and the iconic red Rawlings embroidered patch. An atop that is the famous Rawlings Gold Glove, made from actual gold-tanned leather. Now that's what we call an award!

LOA from Ozzie Smith.
