After the 1972 season the financially troubled Virginia Squires dealt Julius Erving to the New York Nets, getting $1 million and two players in return. The payoff was immediate. Playing back home on Long Island, and with New York City so close, Erving became more visible to the media and public. His game also took off. The 1973-74 ABA season saw Julius Erving dominate the league in leading the New York Nets to their first ABA Championship. Honors for the Doc included league MVP and Finals MVP. Furthermore, the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association also honored Erving as their 1973-74 Outstanding ABA Player with the presentation of the offered plaque. Measuring 12" by 15", the shield shaped wood plaque features a gold colored metal plaquard with engraved titling flanked by applied torch adornments. Dr. J has signed the back of this significant ABA award in black sharpie.

Includes a signed LOA from Julius Erving.
