Super high demand card of 19th Century Chicago White Stocking Hall of Fame star first baseman, Cap Anson, from the historic 1887 N172 Old Judge tobacco series. Anson was the first man to reach the 3,000 hit mark with 3,041 over his 22 year career, spent entirely with the National League Chicago White Stockings. Only 2 times between 1876 and 1897 did he fail to bat over .300. Before the National League was born Anson played 5 years in the first professional league, the National Association, and had 430 more hits in 245 games. Interestingly enough, Anson was one of, if not the last, bare handed fielding first baseman in the game. Clear, sharp, picture image, just a shade on the light side. VG-EX looking corners. Very clean both front and back. Card displays more VG-EX than G from the front with the main reason for the GD PSA 2 grade being a small diagonal piece of top paper missing from the upper right corner on the back. Very desirable card of one of the most important players in the history of the game.
