This large and impressive (16” by 20”) piece of original art was created by Coakley in acknowledgment of the Washington Capitols 1947 BAA Eastern Division title and pending run at the championship. The charming caricature art features a Capitols player climbing triumphantly atop a basketball representing the BAA Western Division with a "1st Place" flag in hand as a St. Louis player vies for the same position. A faint title "Precarious Perch" is written at the top. The artist has inscribed the bottom margin, "Red - Here's hoping that this is the stepping stone to the championship - My Best Wishes - Coak." The piece shows no notable condition faults with minor age toning and remains in its original vintage frame. Includes a letter of provenance from the Auerbach estate.
