Red Auerbach's honorary Celtics number 2 signifies the fact that Auerbach is second only to Walter Brown as the most significant person in the history of the Boston Celtics organization. Auerbach's number "2" was retired by the Celtics on January 4, 1985. For almost all his adult life, Auerbach resided in Washington DC. Even while coaching the Celtics, he maintained an apartment in Boston, but DC was his home. Offered here are Red's personalized Washington DC license plates from the 1980's. One is personalized "CELTS" and the other is personalized "CELT2" noting his honorary Celtics number. Both plates show expected usage wear. Includes a letter of provenance from the Auerbach estate.
