Arnold "Red" Auerbach took his place among the pantheon of New England's elite historical figures on September 20, 1985--his 68th birthday--when a life sized statue of him was unveiled at Faneuil Hall Marketplace. The sculpture, dedicated by the Red Auberbach Fund--a group Red established in 1985 to promote athletic, recreational and other youth activities throughout Massachusetts--depicts the legendary coach of the Boston Celtics sitting at the end of a bench, holding rolled up booklet in one hand and a trademark cigar in the other. Offered here is a miniature version of the bronze statue that sits atop a 10" wide wood base. This miniature bronze replica is also identical to the trophy given annually to the NBA's Coach of The Year, an award dubbed The Red Auerbach trophy. Accompanying the statue is a photograph of Red Standing next to the actual full-sized statue in Boston's Fanueil Hall as well as a related newspaper display plaque. Includes a letter of provenance from the Auerbach estate.
