Some have called it the ultimate act of arrogance, others called it confidence, but Red’s famous act of lighting up a “victory cigar” on the bench late in games when he felt that victory was assured, became Auerbach's mark and one thing he is most remembered, loved and hated for. As famous as he was for his basketball acumen, he was conjointly famous as a cigar smoker. The 1954-55 Boston Celtics team could not have thought of a more apt token of their esteem for their beloved leader than this wonderful 11"x9"x7" cigar humidor. Manufactured to the highest standards of quality by Dunhill, it features a sterling silver plaque on the top bearing the engraved signatures of Bob Cousy, Bill Sharman, Walter Brown, Ed Macauley, Frank Ramsey, Dwight Morrison, Togo Palazzi, Fred Scolari, Jack Nichols, Don Barksdale and Bob Brannum. A superb token of affection from the men who knew him as their coach, mentor, and friend. Includes a letter of provenance from the Auerbach estate.
