The U.S. Caramel Gehrig Portrait!

Very Rare, Vintage 1932 ORIGINAL Photograph issued by the American League Service Bureau capturing Lou Gehrig of the New York Yankees. The photo was captured by the Apex Photograph Company of Chicago who supplied many of the photographs of the American League players to the press during the late 1920’s and 1930’s. Measuring 5” x 7”, the photograph is in fair condition as it was split in half and has since been very carefully reattached. There are also traces of editorial news inks, presumably from publication use as the photo was part of a newspaper’s working library. It is a Rare TYPE I, period photograph and is one of the more well known portrayals of the Yankee Captain. It was the one used for Gehrig’s popular 1932 U.S. Caramel baseball card #26. An original period photo of this image is obviously far more difficult to locate than the card.

Type 1 - A first-generation photograph, developed from the original negative during the period (approximately two years) when the picture was taken. Type 1s, because of their vintage and originality, are the most desirable and valuable of the four photograph types.

Comes with a full PSA/DNA LOA along with a reprint of the 1932 US Caramel card.
