There is no better host for the coveted autograph of Lou Gehrig than an example of his equally coveted 1934 Goudey #61 card. Two collecting worlds collide as this career-contemporary piece bears its subject's bold, black fountain pen scripting in the ideal location. Gehrig's autograph projects at the 8/10 level in terms of boldness but has suffered from some chipping, most noticeable on the the last three letters of "Gehrig". The signature has a faintly noticeable layered effect in spots, likely resulting from poor ink flow on a first attempt by Gehrig. The card itself is centered towards the right, but shows all other attributes of an EX example. From any perspective, this is a truly outstanding Gehrig relic. This is the only autographed example of this Goudey Gehrig card we've seen, with signed Gehrig cards in general being immensely scarce. Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA.
