Produced by the Abbotwares company, this prominent wooden based bronze clock features a five inch bust of Ruth mounted along the top. His image is flanked on each side by individual baseballs, one of which is inscribed “Lifetime 714 home runs” and “One Season 60 Home Runs.” Produced after Ruth’s death in 1948, these clocks were the top prize offered in various punch board games, a popular form of low stakes gambling in bars and taverns at the time. This particular clock shows moderate wear throughout, commensurate with its age, including some cracking on the figural baseballs.
