A natural athlete blessed with tremendous power, a rifle arm, and a durable body, Eddie Mathews was known as “The Santa Barbara Bomber”. He was the premier third baseman of his era, overshadowing contemporary All-Star cornerman Clete Boyer, Brooks Robinson, and Al Rosen. His 512 career homers ties him with Ernie Banks for twenty-first on the all-time list. This Braves road jersey was worn by Mathews during the 1966 season, the team's first in Atlanta after transitioning from Milwaukee. The grey flannel jersey is properly tagged including the “Rawlings (size 44)” tag on the front tail. Embroidered on a felt strip in the collar is his last name, year, and set designation “Mathews 1966 - 1”. The original embroidered Braves logo patch appears on the left sleeve. Moderate wear is apparent throughout and the garment remains in the same original unaltered state as it was since it was last worn by Mathews nearly half a century ago. It's impeccable state of preservation and superb display characteristics have earned it a A10 grade from MEARS. Includes a comprehensive LOA from MEARS (Grade A10).
