On May 15, 1941, it began. On that day, Joltin' Joe DiMaggio went one-for-four with a run batted in against Eddie Smith and the Chicago White Sox. From that fateful day until July 16, fifty-six games later, DiMaggio hit safely in every game, setting a brand new record that still stands as one of the greatest achievements in baseball history. This rare display piece features a 11" x 14" photographic montage representing the hit number, date, opponent and pitcher for each of DiMaggio's 56 knocks during the 1941 season. The vintage piece, printed on photo paper stock features a crystal clear image of DiMaggio batting at center. A slight glint of the silver gelatin finish suggests that this piece was produced in the period of Dimaggio's epic feat. With the exception of a single small border tear the piece survives in NM condition. It is displayed in a 16" x 20" vintage matte that has been inscribed by DiMaggio, "To My Friend Cye Jones Best Always Joe DiMaggio". The black felt tip inscription rates 8-9/10. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
