The 1951 Topps Blue Backs game card set marked Topps first offensive into the sportscard market dominated by Bowman. Finding technically high-grade examples from this noteworthy series is much tougher than is often assumed, resulting not only from the affects of handling, but also inherent problems due to inconsistent production quality.
Offered here is an almost perfectly matched 1951 Topps Blue Back set with 45 out of the 52 cards a perfect looking MINT PSA 9. Almost 75% of the cards in the set are among the finest known with nothing rated higher. All the following key cards are graded MINT PSA 9: #3 Richie Ashburn, 6 Red Schoendienst, 9 Johnny Sain, 10 Joe Page, 20 Ralph Branca, 30 Enos Slaughter, 37 Bobby Doerr, 39 Ed Lopat, 45 Billy Pierce, and 50 Johnny Mize. The only cards not rated a MINT PSA 9 are: #1 Yost(8), 18 Garver(8), 26 Carrasquel(8), 40 Wertz(8), 49 Sauer(8), 51 Waitkus(7), 52 Chapman(8).
