When Detroit great Al Kaline was taunted by a youngster who said "You're not half as good as Mickey Mantle" he replied, "Son, nobody is half as good as Mickey Mantle". Mantle was a multi-talented offensive threat, he drove in runs with enormous power from either side of the plate. He got on base by hitting well for average and drawing more than 100 walks in each of 10 seasons. And he scored runs with his excellent speed, stealing as many as 21 bases in a season (1959). Mantle's combination of personal accomplishments and team success throughout his18 seasons as a New York Yankee, made him one of the most decorated and celebrated heroes ever to don Yankee pinstripes. Dating from the beginning to the heart of Mantle’s career, this K55 signature model Mantle gamer is uncracked and shows evidence of outstanding use. Bat weighs 32.6 ounces and has a length of 35 inches. This bat, according to Louisville slugger factory records, was first ordered by Mantle on September 29,1950 and ordered all the way thru April 1,1960. Bat exhibits heavy use with deeply embedded lace marks present predominantly on the back of the barrel. The bat's barrel has been professionally restored as it previously had deadwood and an after market stamp, which are no longer visible. The bat’s excellent display quality and usage characteristics make it a prime specimen from the man who was sometimes more akin to a superhero than a ball player. Includes a LOA from MEARS (Graded A8).
