Beautiful ring given to Jim Thorpe's family upon his induction into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1975. Thorpe is recognized by many as the greatest all-around athlete of the early 20th century. Thorpe, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, won 2 gold medals at the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm and played 289 games over 6 seasons in Major League Baseball. The top of the ring features a map of the United States in the center with a flying foot logo and a small diamond to note the Hall's New York location. "Hall of Fame" at top of map with "USA" below. "National Track & Field" is spelled out around all. Circling all are tiny images of athletes in competition - running, javelin, pole vaulting, high jumping, etc, 8 in all. One side has Thorpe while the other has 1975. Laurel wreaths are below both. The ring does have some wear as it was worn for a number of years by the proud family member who received it. Jostens 10K stamped on the inside. LOA from the Thorpe family.
