Al Gomez was a scrappy lightweight boxer during the late 1920's and early 1930's. Gomez won the 1931 135 pound AAU National Championship belt and subsequently enjoyed a successful professional career. Highlighting this boxing archive of lightweight National Champion Al Gomez are photos, letters, telegrams, tickets and personal effects.

The most significant and interesting piece of memorabilia in the collection is Al's 1931 Amateur Athletic Union Championship belt and original box. The belt is in NM-MT condition and appears to be original in every way. A large circular medal is set against an engraved and embossed backing with boxing motif. Stamped on the back is the "Dieges & Clust" makers mark and "10k Gold". The original red, white and blue band is still attached and is in excellent shape. The outside of the original Dieges & Clust belt box has seen some wear over the years with one of the back hinges having come loos and some surface flaking. Included with the belt and box are several original photos, some autographed, by Al Gomez picturing him wearing the belt

Also included in the lot are 4 smaller pendants dating from 1926 (Dieges & Clust), 1927 (10k gold), 1930 (solid gold) and 1931 from different boxing competitions. Each pendant has Al's name engraved on them and describe the event in which the pendant's were earned.

Five contracts, three of which are signed by Gomez are included, several letters from trainer/promoter Lou Brix are included along with many telegram well wishes for Al's upcoming bouts from fans and admirers.

Al's own Medicine Ball and pair of well worn Everlast boxing trunks are included as well.

Over twenty 8x10 original boxing photos picturing Al posing with his belt, training, sparring and hamming it up for the camera are also included. Three Jack Dempsey photos are included, one autographed "To My Sparring Partner Al Gomez, Good Luck, Jack Dempsey 6/30/31". Many smaller photos are included that picture Al and other boxers training and posing for the camera. A pair of September 10, 1931 boxing tickets with "Canozeri vs. Berg" are included.
