This colorful two-page fold over baseball scorecard is from April 29, 1884, when Brooklyn hosted the Detroit Wolverines at Washington Park for a pre-season exhibition game. The Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers were in the American Association, while the Detroit Wolverines were in the National League at the time. This scorecard is significant since 1884 was Brooklyn’s 1st season in baseball. This is the earliest Brooklyn baseball game scorecard ever to surface, with this just being their 2nd game ever played. Brooklyn’s regular season didn’t start until May 1st, and their 1st home game wasn’t played until May 5th. The only other documented game that Brooklyn played before April 29th, is one game against the New York Giants on April 18th, but a scorecard from that game has not surfaced as of yet. This scorecard has pre-printed line-ups with the exact date being printed as well. It is fully and neatly scored in pencil. The scorecard has some creasing, some splitting on the spine, and grades in Vg+ condition overall. Among the players participating in this game were Hall of Famer Ned Hanlon and19th Century catching star Charlie Bennett.
