This lot features the Lt. Governor’s Trophy for Southern California Professional Football pitting the Los Angeles Rams versus the San Diego Chargers. Spanning the years 1967 to 1978, the 19-inch tall trophy features a three-tiered wooden base upon which rests a silver drop-back quarterback, standing on an oversized silver football, ready to throw a pass. Awarded for So Cal bragging rights between the two clubs, an oversized, engraved silver plaque adorns the front of the wooden base and reads: “LT. GOVERNOR’S TROPHY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHAMPIONSHIP SAN DIEGO CHARGERS VS. LOS ANGELES ARMS DONATED BY THE HON. ROBERT H. FINCH.” A pair of rectangular engraved silver plaques are situated on two of the trophy’s four sides and include the scores of every game played between the two teams from 1967 to 1978. A quick tally of the total games played during that span reveals the Rams won seven of the 12 contests played.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
