St. Louis Cardinals legend Lou Brock was one of the best base-stealers in Major League Baseball history. When he finally hung up his cleats in 1979, he had accumulated a league-best 938 stolen bases, a record which stood until Rickey Henderson broke it in 1991. In 1967, Brock would have a season to remember. Not only did he make his first All-Star team that season, but he led the team with 206 hits, hitting .299 with 12 triples, 21 home runs and a National League-leading 52 stolen bases. The Cardinals took home the N.L. pennant that year, winning 101 games. Against the Boston Red Sox in the World Series, Brock batted .414 with a record seven stolen bases (three of which came in Game 7) helping to lead the Cardinals to their second championship in four years. This lot includes Brock’s league-best 52nd stolen base from that magical season, which he captured against the Braves at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium on Sept. 30th. The official Rawlings base comes complete with its in-the-ground metal post and is marked in Cardinals’ red with the numbers “1967 52” across the top. A great piece of sports memorabilia from one of baseball’s best.
