In the horse-racing community, owners certainly like to win races. But any notable achievements in the field are also worth some recognition. Such as the case with this particular lot, which includes 12 separate “Eclipse Award” trophies that were awarded to Mr. & Mrs. Eugene V. Klein during the 1980’s. Personally, Klein was voted the winner of the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Owner three years running (1985 to ‘87). Eleven of the 12 trophies, which each measure 11 inches tall by seven inches wide, feature a lone bronze thoroughbred positioned on top of a wooden base that includes a specially engraved plaque. Though the horses have started to patina, the award shines through.

The recognized horses include “Life’s Magic” in 1984, “Lady’s Secret” in 1986, “Winning Colors” in 1988, and “Open Mind” in 1989. Lady’s Secret, in fact, was named “HORSE OF THE YEAR” in ’86 and the 12th trophy in this lot recognizes her achievements via a beautifully cast bronze trophy. Klein, who entered the horse-racing field in 1982, died of a heart attack in 1990. He was 69 years old.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
