Within this lot are three different San Diego Chargers player awards from the 1998 NFL season, a campaign in which the team finished 5-11 in the AFC West under head coach Kevin Gilbride. The three awards resembles each other but are for three unique categories: Lineman of the Year; Special Teams Player of the Year; and Most Inspirational Player. Each one of the awards sports a wooden base that stretches 11” wide by 7.5” deep by two inches tall and includes a bronze lightning bolt that measures 11 inches tall.
Norman Hand was named the recipient of the Lineman of the Year Award, while Steve Tovar and Charles Dimry were named Special Teams Player of the Year and Most Inspirational Player, respectively. The individual bronze figures for each award are perfectly suit for the category: a lineman coming out of his three-finger stance; a special teams’ tackler; and a teammate hoisting another teammate in celebration.
