The Los Angeles Lakers organization has produced many of the NBA’s all-time greats, both players as well as executives. This lot includes three single-signed basketballs autographed by NBA Hall of Famers with connections to the Lakers. The first is a white panel basketball that includes Jerry West’s signature in brown. West was a 14-time All-Star who led the Lakers to the 1972 NBA title. The second basketball, also a white panel version, includes the autograph of former Lakers executive and head coach Bill Sharman. Sharman, who signed in brown marker, was a great guard for the Boston Celtics who then coached the Lakers from 1971 to ’76 before moving into the team’s executive suite. As Lakers General Manager, Sharman built the 1980 and 1982 NBA championship teams, and as Lakers President he oversaw the 1985, 1987 and 1988 NBA title-winning teams. Sharman was enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1976 as a player and again in 2004 as a coach. He is one of only three people to be enshrined in both categories, after John Wooden and Lenny Wilkens. The final basketball, an official Spalding (Stern) NBA game ball, was signed in black marker by Magic Johnson who led the Showtime Lakers to five NBA titles during the 1980s. All three signatures are strong and would rate 8-9/10 in our book!
