Mickey Mantle lent his image to many advertising pieces during his career, but none are as dynamic and visually pleasing as his 1962 Jell-O display. This mammoth advertising display measures 28x32” and was used to whip up excitement around the baseball cards Jell-O printed on each of their boxes in 1962 and 1963. The Mick is depicted in a classic batting pose, his famed number 7 just visible on his back, with the majestic Yankee Stadium as the backdrop. The “Hey Kids!” and other advertising copy set in the kitschy fonts makes this piece immediately recognizable as a product of the 1960s.
While the individual Jell-O cards are easily obtainable, the large advertising panels such as this are among the most sought after sports advertisements in the hobby. This fine example retains its bright and vibrant colors and shows light wear. The original fold lines are visible along with some edge wear and scuffing to the surface. None of this, however, comes close to distracting one’s eyes from the beauty of this piece. This fine example, in a condition as good or better than any we have seen offfered at auction. The display has been professionally matted and framed with UV protective glass, further enhancing the museum-quality impact of this much-sought after Mickey Mantle display.
