This lot features a comprehensive collection of horse-racing press pins that were issued to members of the media between 1955 and 1980. Originating with the San Diego Hall of Champions, and much of it coming from the private collection of the late Jack Murphy, a longtime sports columnist for the then-San Diego Union newspaper, the overall collection boasts more than 100 press pins that were issued at various southern California-based race tracks including Del Mar (34 pins); Santa Anita (34); Hollywood Park (22); and Los Alamitos (2). The vast majority of the press pins are designated by year and include enamel painting schemes relative to the park in question.
