Football Hall of Famer Lance Alworth was a standout wide receiver for the San Diego Chargers before he moved on to help the Dallas Cowboys win Super Bowl VI. He played a total of 11 seasons in the NFL, from 1962 through 1972, and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1978. Nicknamed “Bambi” because he could run and leap like a deer, Alworth pulled down 542 passes during his illustrious career and amassed 10,266 receiving yards. He scored 85 touchdowns. Due to his longstanding and outstanding career with the Chargers (1962 to 1970), Alworth was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame on Nov. 13, 1977, five years following his retirement from professional football.

This lot features a pair of coveted keepsakes from Alworth including his 1977 San Diego Chargers Hall of Fame induction art print. The framed and matted print, which shows a helmetless Alworth in between series, measures 23” wide by 24” high and includes an engraved plaque on the bottom that reads: “LANCE ALWORTH #19, San Diego Chargers, Hall of Fame, Inducted Nov. 13, 1977.” Also included in this lot is a severely faded and slightly deflated NFL football that Alworth signed and inscribed in black marker: “Lance Alworth #19 ‘Bambi’ #19.” Though the football's panels have faded over time, Alworth’s signature remains bold.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
